Real answers · live Tally company
Not a mockup. These are unedited answers from Claude connected to a working Tally company through Tally MCP Server - with context behind the numbers, not just the numbers. Customer, ledger and employee names are masked.
Receivables
“Which customers currently have the highest outstanding receivables? Show me the top 10.”
Outstanding amount, bill count, oldest and newest bill for each customer - and the share of the receivable book they hold.
It called out the customer with old bills and no recent billing, versus active accounts with a collections backlog.
Overdue days run from the last posted date in Tally, so it flagged the figures as conservative.

Expenses
“Which expense ledgers have increased the most compared with the previous month? Show the top 10.”
Ranked by rupee increase, with the ledger group and a total of ₹7.1L across the ten ledgers.
Software Expense alone was 32% of the increase; salary ledgers made up seven of the ten rows.
It flagged that the rows at exactly +100% came from the earlier month being partly posted, not from higher spending.

Sales
“Compare our sales for the last 3 months. Show the monthly sales, month-over-month change, and the customers who contributed most.”
Invoice count, sales and % change for each month, plus the three-month total.
It compared the two months customer by customer, showing who stopped buying and who started.
Two customers accounted for 137% of the net decline, partly offset by four newly billing accounts.

What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data. Instead of guessing, the AI calls defined tools - such as “outstanding bills” or “profit & loss” - and answers from the results.
| Upload to AI | Tally MCP |
|---|---|
| Export reports | Query connected data |
| Prepare spreadsheets | Ask questions directly |
| Repeat the process every time | Reuse the connection |
| Filter rows manually | Natural-language investigation |
| Static snapshots | Follow-up questions |
| Separate files per report | Connected business context |
Exports still have their place for filing and audits. MCP removes them from everyday questions.

Security & access
MCP does not mean giving an AI unrestricted access to your accounting system. The server exposes only the tools you choose, to the people you choose.
Read-only by default
Read your Tally data without giving AI write access.
The AI investigates the reports it is permitted to run, while your accounting records stay controlled in Tally.
Write tools are blocked at the server level unless your operator deliberately enables them.
Choose which reports each user can run, company by company. No tools are granted automatically.
Each employee signs in and approves the AI connection. No shared passwords; access is limited to one user and company.
Restrict a company to office or VPN IP ranges - on every request, or at sign-in for hosted AI clients.
End a user's AI sessions instantly from the admin portal. Their account stays active.
Administrative changes and tool decisions are recorded - without storing report contents or credentials.
Real screens from Tally Access, the administration console for Tally MCP Server.

Supported today in TallyPrime. Administrators decide which of these each user can access.
Write tools · off by default
Create & update ledgers · Delete selected masters · Import purchase invoices. Available only when your operator enables writes and an administrator grants them to a specific user.

Why Tirnav
Tirnav brings experience across Tally integration, APIs, MCP, AI agents and enterprise automation - and can tailor the server's tools to the questions your team asks most.
Tally MCP Server connects TallyPrime with MCP-compatible AI clients, so users can ask questions about their Tally data in natural language. The AI calls report tools such as trial balance, outstanding bills and sales registers, and answers from the results.
No. It connects to the TallyPrime you already use. TallyPrime (Silver or Gold) needs its XML server enabled and reachable from the MCP server over a private network or VPN.
Not by default. Deployments run with write tools blocked at the server level, so the AI can only read and analyze reports. Write tools (create and update ledgers, delete selected masters, import purchase invoices) exist, but only work if your operator enables writes and an administrator grants them to a specific user for a specific company.
Yes. The server works with MCP clients that support OAuth, including Claude and ChatGPT. Each employee signs in with their own account and approves the connection; there is no shared password.
Yes. The server exposes standard MCP over HTTPS with OAuth discovery and client registration, so internal copilots, custom assistants and AI agents can connect the same way as off-the-shelf clients.
Financial reports (trial balance, balance sheet, profit & loss, ledger statements and balances, outstanding bills, bills aging, sales and purchase registers, chart of accounts), inventory reports (stock summary, stock item balance and statement) and selected masters. Administrators choose which of these tools each user can run, per company. No tools are granted automatically.
No. The AI only calls the MCP tools it has been granted. Tally requests and credentials stay on the server, and report results are held in an isolated per-session cache that is dropped after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Yes. One workspace can map multiple Tally companies. Permissions are set per user and per company, companies can be restricted to office or VPN IP ranges, and administrators can revoke a user's AI sessions at any time.
Tally MCP Server is built for TallyPrime. For QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books and other accounting systems, Tirnav builds MCP servers as a custom engagement using the same permission-aware approach.
