AI assistant

“Which customers owe us more than ₹5 lakh?”

### Natural language

Ask Tally questions without navigating reports manually.

### Connected to Tally

Balances, statements and registers answer from your synced books - even when Tally is closed.

### Controlled access

Each person sees only the companies and data their role allows.

## Tally has the data. Getting answers shouldn't require digging through reports.

Tally holds your ledgers, vouchers, outstanding balances, sales, purchases and stock. The challenge is finding the exact answer quickly - the right report, the right period, the right filter.

- “Which customers have the highest outstanding receivables?”
- “What were our sales this month compared with last month?”
- “Which expense ledgers increased the most?”
- “Which customers contributed most to this quarter's revenue?”

Real answers · live Tally company

## So what if you could simply ask Tally?

- Receivables

    ### “Which customers have the highest outstanding receivables? Show the top 10.”

Ranked who owes most, with bill ageing, and separated stalled debt from active accounts.

- Expenses

    ### “Which expense ledgers increased the most compared with last month?”

Found what drove the rise, and flagged rows that came from a partly posted month.

- Sales

    ### “Compare our sales for the last 3 months, and who contributed most.”

Traced the drop to two customers, partly offset by four new ones.

What is MCP?

## MCP gives AI a structured way to work with your Tally data.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data. Instead of guessing or reading an uploaded spreadsheet, the AI calls defined tools - such as “outstanding bills” or “profit & loss” - and answers from the results.

## How Tally MCP Server works

Tally Sync runs next to Tally and only makes outbound HTTPS connections, so no ports are opened and no VPN is needed. It keeps a synced copy of your books on servers in India, so balances, statements and registers answer even when Tally is closed. The MCP server runs on your own domain and decides on every request what each user may do.

1. 01

    ### Install Tally Sync

A small Windows app on the computer that runs Tally. Pair it with a one-time code.

2. 02

    ### Choose who sees what

Give each person a role per company. Their AI assistant gets the same access.

Security & access

## Keep control of what AI can access

MCP does not mean giving an AI unrestricted access to your accounting system. An assistant only sees the companies and data its user's role allows.

Same rules for people and AI

Read your Tally data without handing AI the keys.

Reads follow what the person may view; writes need their own permission. Data is hosted in India, and each workspace's data is isolated at the database level.

- ### Roles per company

Owner, Accountant, Viewer, AI only and Data entry built in, or your own. A person can hold a different role in each company.

- ### Read-only unless you allow writes

Changing Tally needs a role with AI-write permission. The server and Tally Sync can each block changes to Tally entirely.

- ### Individual sign-in

Each person signs in with their own account (email or Google) and approves the AI connection. No shared passwords.

- ### Network rules

Require office or VPN IP ranges when someone connects an AI assistant, and limit the admin console to your networks.

- ### Time-limited access

Set an end date for an outside CA or auditor, and disconnect any AI connection at any time.

- ### Tamper-evident activity log

Sign-ins, admin changes and every AI tool call are recorded in an append-only, hash-chained log - without report contents or credentials.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is Tally MCP Server?

Tally MCP Server connects TallyPrime and Tally.ERP 9 with MCP-compatible AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT, so you can ask questions about your Tally data in plain language. The AI calls report tools such as trial balance, outstanding bills, day book and voucher registers, and answers from the results. It also comes with a web console for ledgers, vouchers and stock.

### How do I connect Tally to ChatGPT or Claude?

Install Tally Sync on the computer that runs Tally and pair it with your workspace. Then open Connect AI in the console and copy your connector URL. In Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop), add it under Settings → Connectors as a custom connector; in ChatGPT, create a connector under Settings → Connectors with OAuth authentication; in Claude Code, run claude mcp add with the URL. Sign in with your own account, then ask a question.

### Which Tally versions work, and do I need a VPN?

It works with TallyPrime (Silver or Gold) and Tally.ERP 9, with Tally's XML server enabled - you keep using Tally as today. Tally Sync, a small Windows app on the computer that runs Tally, only makes outbound HTTPS connections, so you don't need a VPN or to open any ports.

### Does Tally need to stay open?

Not for everyday questions. Ledger balances, ledger statements, the day book, voucher registers and the trial balance answer from the synced copy of your books, so you can ask them even when Tally is closed, and the answer says how current it is. Other reports - profit & loss, balance sheet, outstanding bills and stock - still read Tally live, so Tally and Tally Sync need to be running for those, and for changes written back to Tally.

### Does the AI modify my accounting data?

Only if you allow it. Reading follows what each person may view. Write tools (create and update ledgers and stock masters, import purchase and sales invoices, godown transfers) each need their own permission in the person's role, and deleting masters is in no built-in role. Writes can also be switched off for the whole server, or on a Tally Sync computer.

### Can we manage several Tally companies and users?

Yes. One workspace can hold multiple Tally companies. Each person gets a role per company - Owner, Accountant, Viewer, AI only, Data entry or your own - and their AI assistant gets the same access. Access can be given an end date, for example for an outside CA.

### Where is my data stored, and is it safe?

Your synced data is stored on servers in India, and each workspace's data is isolated at the database level. The AI only calls the tools its user's role allows, and sign-ins, admin changes and every AI tool call are kept in an append-only, hash-chained activity log.

### How much does it cost?

Starter is ₹499 a month (₹4,990 a year) for one Tally licence with up to 25 companies. Seller, with Amazon and Flipkart imports, is ₹1,199 a month, and Practice, for CA firms with 3 licences and up to 100 companies each, is ₹1,999 a month. Prices are before GST, yearly billing gives two months free, and Enterprise is priced on request. Early-access members get a discount.
