Match partner data to your records
Map buyer SKUs, ship-to codes, and units to the right records before processing orders.
Expertise:
The problem
Salesforce + EDI gets complicated at the handoffs: where a buyer's SKU becomes a product, where an order becomes a shipment, and where a failed update becomes someone's responsibility.
Map buyer SKUs, ship-to codes, and units to the right records before processing orders.
Define who owns orders, fulfillment, and invoicing so updates stay consistent across systems.
A delivered file can still fail processing. Track exceptions and recover without duplicate records.
How it works
For manufacturers, distributors, and wholesale brands using Salesforce alongside an ERP, accounting application, WMS, or 3PL. The integration gives customer-facing teams access to agreed order and exception information while preserving the operational system responsible for stock, shipment confirmation, and financial posting.

Shipment notice to the buyer
Approved finance source → trading partner
Every document is validated, tracked and tied back to the business transaction.
Illustrative workflow; record ownership depends on your configuration.
We assess Salesforce APIs, event-based integration, and existing middleware against your org's enabled features, permissions, transaction volumes, and latency requirements. The design specifies the supported records, authentication, correlation keys, and recovery process. Salesforce Flow, Apex, validation rules, and existing integrations are reviewed before selecting how incoming transactions create or update records. Your current EDI provider can remain responsible for partner transport and translation where its interfaces support the agreed workflow.
Salesforce: integration patterns and practicesEDI transactions
Scope the X12 documents your trading partners require and the Salesforce or operational records each document needs. These supplier-side examples are confirmed against the partner's version and implementation guide.
01 / Buyer → supplier
Purchase Order
What does the buyer need?
Agreed Salesforce order workflow
Map the retailer PO to Order and OrderItem records or an agreed custom model after confirming org capabilities. Resolve accounts, products, price books, units, and ship-to references before creating the transaction.
02 / Supplier → buyer
Purchase Order Acknowledgment
What can you supply, and when?
Approved order response
Obtain accepted quantities and delivery commitments from the responsible order or supply system. An opportunity stage change alone should not trigger a retailer order acknowledgment.
03 / Supplier → buyer
Advance Ship Notice
What shipped, and how is it packed?
ERP or WMS shipment + CRM visibility
Build the ASN from confirmed warehouse packing, carton, tracking, and SSCC data. Synchronize agreed shipment references and status to Salesforce for sales and service teams.
04 / Supplier → buyer
Invoice
What is the buyer being charged?
Approved invoice source + CRM reference
Generate the EDI invoice from the designated finance system and expose agreed invoice references or status in Salesforce. Define the invoice data model for your licensed products and org configuration.
05 / Buyer → supplier
Payment / Remittance
Which invoices does the remittance cover?
Finance reconciliation + application visibility
Match retailer remittance references, invoice amounts, and deductions to approved finance records. Define how Salesforce receives reconciliation status; a remittance message alone does not establish payment settlement.
The business journey is shown in sequence; actual timing follows the partner agreement. An EDI 820 carries payment instructions or remittance information. Payment execution and settlement are confirmed through the agreed finance and banking process.
Authoritative inventory availability
Use the ERP or WMS availability policy for retailer inventory advice. If availability is also shown in Salesforce, specify its timestamp, warehouse scope, and refresh schedule.
Technical acknowledgment tracking
Link functional acknowledgment status to the original EDI interchange. Keep technical acceptance separate from order acceptance and application processing.
Additional scope can include 860 order changes, 940 warehouse shipping orders, 945 shipping advice, or EDIFACT equivalents. A technical acknowledgment is separate from a commercial acceptance. Documents and directions are agreed for each partner.

Example journey
Match customer and item references, then create or synchronize the agreed order records.
Use confirmed quantities, packing, and tracking data to prepare the shipment notice.
Send the approved invoice with its original PO and shipment references intact.
Illustrative workflow; records depend on your edition and configuration.
Match accounts and products, then define which system owns each order.
Check Flow, Apex, and validation rules before creating or updating records.
Set access, update frequency, and volume limits for reliable synchronization.
Route exceptions to the right owner with the order reference and next action.
Link shipment and invoice updates to their source records and original PO.
Validate each retailer's requirements before adding partners or increasing volume.
EDI failure & recovery
Recovery is part of the integration design. We define how to locate the failure, correct the cause, resume processing, and verify the result across EDI, Salesforce, and the systems downstream.
Track document receipt, validation, application processing, and partner acknowledgment separately. Surface the failed stage, affected order line, and source error instead of showing one ambiguous success flag.
Route mapping issues, application validation errors, and warehouse exceptions to the right owner. Keep partner control references, record IDs, timestamps, and the required correction together.
Check whether the destination already committed a record before retrying. Preserve the original correlation reference, retry only the appropriate stage, and require review when the outcome is uncertain.
Confirm that source and destination records agree and that the required downstream messages completed. Record the correction and recovery result so operations can explain what happened later.
A timeout does not prove the write failed. Check the original external reference and the supported Salesforce record state before retrying. If the agreed order record exists, resume from the next incomplete stage. If it does not, a controlled retry can proceed. Uncertain matches go to review. Edition-specific permissions and posting rules govern any correction.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. We scope an integration that translates partner EDI documents and connects the agreed data to Salesforce through supported interfaces. The solution includes the EDI transport and mapping responsibilities, Salesforce record design, and ERP or warehouse connections required by the business process.
Yes. Tirnav is a Salesforce Partner. For an EDI project, we combine Salesforce configuration and integration planning with trading-partner mapping, testing, and operational support. The specific connector, middleware, and document scope are agreed for your environment.
The proposed integration connects their responsibilities. Your ERP or warehouse can remain the source for allocation, inventory, packing, and shipment confirmation, while Salesforce supports customer-facing workflows and visibility. Discovery defines which system owns each record and business decision.
Where your org supports the required order workflow, we can map retailer POs to the agreed order and line records. We first review account and product matching, price books, required fields, automation, and permissions. A custom model or ERP-owned order may be more appropriate for some environments.
This can be included in scope. We define the data available to agents, how exceptions become cases, tasks, or custom records, and how shipment updates are correlated to the customer and order. Access controls, ownership, and refresh expectations are established before implementation.
The integration approach depends on your existing architecture and requirements. We assess your current EDI provider, middleware, Salesforce interfaces, volumes, and support model. MuleSoft can be evaluated where relevant; we do not assume every Salesforce EDI project requires it.
The agreed scope covers discovery, source-to-target mapping, connectivity, validation, exception handling, end-to-end testing, and go-live support. Deliverables identify the trading partners, document types, application records, and any ERP or warehouse changes required. Ongoing support responsibilities are agreed separately.
Timing depends on partner testing windows, document complexity, master-data readiness, interface access, and application changes. After discovery, we provide a dated plan with dependencies and acceptance criteria rather than promise one timeline for every project.
We assess the existing provider's interfaces, mapping ownership, transport agreements, and support responsibilities. The project can focus on the application connection where suitable. If migration is needed, we plan partner testing, reconciliation, and cutover explicitly.
Scope is driven by the number of partners and document maps, application interfaces, custom fields, warehouse dependencies, environments, and support requirements. We separate implementation work from any recurring service, transport, or third-party licensing costs in the proposal.
Bring your trading partners, Salesforce setup, and the workflow that needs attention. We will help define the integration scope, demonstrate the relevant EDI platform workflow, and plan the next step.
